Case Study: Google Goes Live
YR Live, a live customization experience agency based in the U.K. with offices in Los Angeles, New York City, Tokyo and Hong Kong, specializes in giving event attendees the opportunity to create their own personalized products at live events. “We’re fortunate enough to have some great clients, and that means we often get invited to take part in some pretty incredible events,” says CEO Tim Williams.
Recently, the team brought their live customization capabilities to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June. They teamed up with Google to give guests the opportunity to design their own trucker cap, using Google Doodle art files – the archives of which were opened for the first time for the occasion. Attendees chose one of the four official Google colors, and added artwork from the archives to the front. The hats were printed on-site and immediately made available to attendees.
“The objective was to get people to proudly wear their hats to ensure Google was noticed all over Cannes and also give people a fun and memorable experience,” says Williams.
YR Live also brought their on-site printing to Comic-Con International in San Diego in July. Guests bought merchandise, including T-shirts, baseball shirts and tote bags, and then were able to drag and drop artwork onto it. “They could play around with the design and then watch as our team printed it live in a few minutes,” says Williams. “The aim here was to create a fun, experience-led merch zone where people could engage with the brand as well as create unique, one-off merch. It was a huge success.”
