How to Be a Great Mentor – 4 Tips

1. Grow In Your Role
Don’t forget your own development. Mentors must continue growing and deepening their own skills to stay relevant and valuable.

2. Create a Safe Place
Establish a secure environment so the person you’re mentoring feels comfortable enough to expose weak spots. Mentees need to feel they can be honest, even vulnerable, in order for the relationship to be beneficial.

3. Set Expectations
Mentors should be up front about goals, be willing to facilitate discussion, and be firm on keeping their commitment to the mentee.

4. Help Mentees Identify Niches
Sales reps that focus on specific types of clients are more successful, so mentors should spend a good amount of time helping mentees focus on customer acquisition. That teamwork might include researching markets and then tailoring products to fit creative programs and campaigns.
