Decorating Roundup: Ninja Transfers Launches ‘PermaStickers’
Also, Roland DGA has released new desktop printers, including one for direct-to-film printing, and Stahls’ brings a vintage look to patches.
Philadelphia-based Ninja Transfers (asi/73060) recently launched a new solution for hard good customization: UV direct-to-film (DTF) three-dimensional PermaStickers. The stickers can be used for decorating mugs, tumblers and other hard goods with no heat required, according to the supplier.
PermaStickers offer vibrant colors that won’t fade over time, even when exposed to sunlight and harsh weather, according to Ninja Transfers. Plus, they’re dishwasher-safe. PermaStickers are formulated to be applied much like a regular sticker, but with more permanent results. Customers need only their hands and a provided squeegee to apply the stickers; no other specialized equipment is required.
The stickers allow decorators to expand their offerings beyond custom apparel and are also a solution for distributors and decorators looking for a cost-effective, easy way to fulfill hard goods orders, according to Ninja Transfers.
Roland DGA Releases Direct-to-Film Printer
Roland DGA, a provider of wide-format inkjet printers, vinyl cutters and other digital imaging technology, has released two new products to its VersaSTUDIO family of desktop devices: the BD-8 UV flatbed printer and the BY-20 DTF printer.
The flatbed UV printer makes product personalization easier and more affordable, while the DTF printer is ideal for apparel decorators.
“Both the BD-8 and BY-20 are small enough to fit on your desk, yet they’re capable of doing very big things,” said Daniel Valade, a product manager for Roland. “Plus, they are priced to suit the budgets and workflows of startups, smaller print shops, retail stores and home-based businesses.”
The BD-8 UV flatbed printer is capable of high-definition direct printing on substrates and three-dimensional objects, up to A5 size and 4 inches in height. The BD-8 can produce a wide range of profitable items, including customized smartphone cases, notebooks and cosmetic items. An optional rotary axis unit is also available for printing fully around small bottles, lipstick cases and other cylindrical objects. The BD-8 uses specially formulated EUV5 inks that cure instantly under UV light and adhere well to many different surfaces, including soft materials like fabric or leather and hard substrates such as wood or plastics.
“The small footprint, easy operation and affordability of the BD-8 makes getting started with product personalization and customization a breeze – even for those with little or no print experience,” said Dave Hawkes, a Roland DGA product manager.
The BY-20 also makes it possible for just about anyone to achieve professional-level results, according to Roland. The DTF printer lets decorators produce customized apparel and accessories quickly and easily with no weeding required. Complex designs can be transferred onto both light and dark fabrics – not only cotton but also polyester, cotton polyester, denim, nylon and rayon. Roland DGA also sells a complete DTF solution to complement the printer, including inks, transfer film and powder.
“The BY-20 is the star of a complete direct-to-film system that makes apparel decoration easy, accessible and cost-effective,” noted Valade. “It’s compact, simple to use and offers increased print speeds that allow you to create more high-quality customized garments and accessories in less time.”
Stahls’ Brings Vintage Style With Chenille Patches
Stahls’ (asi/88984) has launched chenille patches – a new custom transfer option in its dimensional emblems and patches category.
The patches give apparel decorators the ability to create the classic look and feel of vintage letterman jackets, collegiate fraternities and high-end fashion. Chenille provides a soft and textured finish for a stylish appeal on a variety of cotton and polyester apparel and accessories.
Custom chenille patches are available in more than 50 thread color options, with nine felt backing colors to choose from including gold or silver glitter. Patches are a single layer of thread with felt fabric border and can be ordered as heat-applied transfers or with pressure-sensitive adhesive to be used on hard goods. They feature an elevated plush finish that also offers durability. Patches are lab-tested for washability, making them ideal for jackets, hoodies, bags and totes, or hard substrates like tumblers, notebooks and padfolios.
