Chameleon like Inc. Acquires TPGG
Gilroy, CA-based supplier Chameleon like Inc. (asi/44558) announced late Wednesday that it has acquired The Platform Group Gallery (TPGG; asi/78708). Financial terms of the transaction, which closed in July, were not released.
Chameleon like, which manufactures and supplies journals, folders and desk accessories, said the acquisition is part of a strategic plan to expand into custom packaging and establish a presence in the Houston, TX, area. TPGG specializes in custom gift boxes, portfolios, binders and desk storage items under the name GalleryBoard Packaging line.
“For years, customers have asked us for packaging solutions, but our first goal has always been to create a strong process around our existing custom journal business, then scale that into relevant categories; we’re ready now and the need for quick-to-market custom packaging is here,” said Pierre Martichoux, President of Chameleon like Inc., which he founded in 1998.
According to the companies, TPGG is relocating to a larger manufacturing facility in Houston. Chameleon like is taking over customer service and production for TPGG “in the near future,” a statement said.
“I cannot imagine a better home for the GalleryBoard Packaging line than at Chameleon like,” said TPGG Founder Allison Gower. “I designed the GalleryBoard line to be high-style, ecologically conscious and made in the USA with highly trained employees. Pierre and his team at Chameleon like share these values, and I am confident that the GalleryBoard line will thrive and grow with Chameleon like production, service and sales team members.”
Chameleon like manufactures 75% of its products from scratch in the U.S., Martichoux said. The supplier firm is also accredited by the Quality Certification Alliance, a promo industry nonprofit that accredits companies that meet stringent standards on product safety.
Martichoux told Counselor that TPGG will continue to go to market under the GalleryBoard line name in the short term. “In the long run, the line will likely be folded into the Chameleon like name,” he said. Going forward, TPGG will operate under the Chameleon like ASI number – 44558. Within a few weeks, the TPGG website will be discontinued and the url will forward directly to Chameleon like’s website, www.chameleonlike.com.
Regarding personnel, Martichoux told Counselor that Gower and co-founder Jeremy Konko are helping with TPGG’s transition to being under Chameleon like’s umbrella, but are not expected to be on board over the long haul. “Production personnel is staying and working out of the new location in Houston,” said Martichoux, who believes the future is bright. “We intend to offer a total packaging and fulfillment solution -- box, foam and tissue paper, supplied products insertion, and drop shipping,” he said. “Bringing our know-how to this new product category is a natural move.”
