Health Canada and Mississauga, ON-based Wal-Mart Canada Corp. have issued an official joint recall for blackweb Power Banks. The battery inside the China-manufactured power banks can overheat, posing a fire and burn risk. So far, Wal-Mart Canada has received four reports of the product overheating and the battery exploding; two incidents resulted in property damage and two caused skin injuries.

Power banks with the following UPC and model numbers, listed on the back of the product packaging, are included in the recall:

• blackweb 5200mAh Power Bank: model #S5201, UPC #840518100287
• blackweb 6600mAh Power Bank: model #S6601, UPC #840518100294
• blackweb 10000mAh Power Bank: model #S1001, UPC #840518100300

The rectangular power banks are black and orange, and have a blackweb logo on the front of the product. An estimated 90,000 power banks were sold in Canada between May 2016 and February 2018 at Wal-Mart Canada retail locations and online. No ASI-listed companies were named in the recall.

Consumers are advised to stop use of the power banks immediately and return them to the nearest Wal-Mart Canada retail location for a full refund. Wal-Mart Canada can be contacted at (800) 328-0402.
