Ride the ‘Coastal Cowgirl’ Trend
It combines a rugged look with beach vibes, and related products are available in the industry.
It’s the must-know trend for spring and summer that’s sure to be on full display at outdoor events this month.
With the popularity of shows like Yellowstone and 1923, and a full slate of summer music festivals in California – particularly Coachella, which starts this week, and Stagecoach later this month – the “coastal cowgirl” style has gained significant momentum on catwalks, as streetwear and on social media. Related to the “coastal grandmother” trend of summer 2022, it blends a Western look with a casual beach aesthetic.

“The trend is both rugged and relaxed,” Samantha Sutton, a fashion expert and stylist, recently told InStyle. “It combines the easy breezy coastal feel that comes from knits and oversized button-downs with classic ‘cowgirl’ essentials, like denim, western boots, big buckle belts and even cowboy hats. … The reason why this aesthetic is taking off is that it feels so effortless and throw-on-and-go.”
Here are seven ways to bring the coastal cowgirl trend to upcoming promo campaigns.
1. Anniversary Programs
Companies rewarding long-time employees can offer fun apparel and accessories, like leather cowboy boots, debossed or embroidered with the firm name and personalization.
2. Large-Scale Parties
Media companies that host parties after major events, like professional sports games, can distribute straw hats for ticketed attendees, branded with the company name.
3. Outdoor Events
Gatherings like music festivals, food-truck festivals and athletic events are ideal for small bags – consider clutches, wallets and hands-free hip packs.
4. Boardwalk Stores
Surf and beachwear shops in coastal towns are a perfect fit for flowy tops – ideal for nightlife after a day in the sun and sand.
5. Travel Agents
Vacation professionals can send a thank- you gift to customers, like straw accessories ideal for tropical trips. Airlines and resorts can also give travel agents similar incentives.
6. Incentive Trips
Encourage companies taking salespeople on tropical incentive trips to give out branded apparel celebrating the occasion – knit sweaters are ideal for cool nights.
7. Financial Clients
Suggest to banks and insurance companies that they gift new clients with rugged, useful leather goods like padfolios and laptop sleeves.
