Health Canada has issued an official recall for Skip Ball toys from Montreal-based Dollarama L.P. The toy may contain phthalate levels that exceed allowable limits. As of this writing, no incidents or injuries had yet been reported to Health Canada, and no ASI-listed companies were named in the recall.

The toy has a pink ankle loop and multicolored ball, attached by a plastic cord. Product number 14-1401338 is on the front of the packaging and UPC 667888025213 can be found on the back.

Phthalates are a type of chemical used to make flexible vinyl plastic. Research has shown that certain phthalates can cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in children when soft vinyl products are sucked or chewed for an extended period of time.

More than 500,000 of the toys, made in China, were sold in Canada between January 2012 and July 2018. Consumers are advised to take the toys away from children and dispose of them or return them to a Dollarama store for a full refund.
