Promotions Planner: I’ll Drink to That
Start presenting ideas to clients for campaigns centered on September observances.
While September marks the official end of the summer season, the fun isn’t over. Lingering warm weather means opportunities to leverage observances like National Tailgating Day and National Beer Lover’s Day to create campaigns for clients. And don’t forget opportunities to help local small businesses promote their products and services – from mini-golf courses to coffee houses to assisted living centers.
Sept. 2/National Tailgating Day
Observed on the first Saturday of September, this day encourages people to imbibe outside – whether it’s during a sporting event or other gathering. Fortunately, the industry is full of options for those partying in parking lots and picnic areas.
PITCH: Event organizers can distribute branded kits to guests at parking lot entrances. Employers can also send them to remote workers for a little encouragement to have fun.
Sept. 7/National Beer Lover’s Day
Encourage breweries, restaurants and bars to invest in branded products that celebrate this day. Signage in the weeks beforehand can promote drink specials, and hard goods for patrons who purchase beer to take home will keep the celebration going.
PITCH: Think reusable coasters and drinkware for customers, and higher-end items such as glass or stainless-steel growlers for purchases.
Sept. 10-16/National Assisted Living Week
Established in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living, this observance celebrates the importance of assisted living centers and the hard work of their dedicated staff. It’s also an opportunity for facilities to offer tours to prospective residents and their families.
PITCH: Present useful hard goods like drinkware and reusable tote bags, as well as informative items like document folders and magnets with vital contact information.
Sept. 21/Miniature Golf Day
Mini-golf courses have an opportunity this day to promote the popular pastime, especially in resort towns. Suggest the courses offer group discounts, extend their hours and sell special-edition items like T-shirts and hats.
PITCH: Mini-golf courses can offer T-shirts, golf polos and headwear, and award game winners with tote bags and drinkware.
Sept. 29/National Coffee Day
Americans sure do love our coffee. Remind local coffeehouses, cafés and restaurants to take advantage of the day by offering branded items for purchase, like tumblers and mugs, and to outfit staff with new aprons.
PITCH: Customers will appreciate classic mugs or travel tumblers for their next commute. Also consider a high-end item, like a grinder, French press or gift set, for the day’s 50th guest.
