Promotions Planner: A Job Well Done
Start presenting ideas to clients for campaigns centered on February observances.
February may bring some of winter’s coldest days, but it’s also the month with a number of fun and important observances. Consider National Women Physicians Day, National Frozen Yogurt Day and Safer Internet Day, an observance set aside to educate people – particularly youth – about ongoing cyber concerns. Here are several holidays that can act as jumping-off points for clients’ upcoming promo campaigns.
Feb. 3/National Women Physicians Day
Celebrated on the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive a medical degree in the U.S. in 1849, this observance recognizes the hard work of female physicians across the country and the next generation of women doctors.
PITCH: Healthcare systems with female physicians on staff can distribute personalized apparel ideal for layering on the job.
Feb. 6/National Frozen Yogurt Day
This sweet treat can be served up in a multitude of ways, with lots of different flavors and toppings. This particular day is set aside to celebrate the varieties of “froyo” and its many fans.
PITCH: Suggest that local ice cream shops put together signage and distribute related branded items to celebrate the day.
Feb. 7/Safer Internet Day
Established by Insafe, a European-based network of internet safety education centers, this observance has expanded to an estimated 180 countries and territories. Its purpose is to raise awareness to safer internet use, with tips to contend with cyberbullying, identity theft and online predators, among other concerns.
PITCH: Schools can host educational sessions this day and give out branded items to attendees.
Feb. 16/National Caregivers Day
Hosted by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice on the third Friday of February, this observance recognizes the dedication and daily efforts of caregivers across the country. The Association also provides year-round education and resources for people who are the primary caregivers for elderly parents, special needs children and many others.
PITCH: Healthcare facilities can give out PPE kits to caregivers who attend educational sessions this day.
Feb. 25/National Clam Chowder Day
What began as a fish-based stew at pubs mainly in the Northeastern U.S. in the 1700s has become a nationwide favorite, with varieties like New England (creamy), Manhattan (red) and Rhode Island (clear). This day celebrates the history of this soup and its many variations.
PITCH: Propose that local restaurants and taverns that offer clam chowder also sell bowls and containers for purchase.
